1.1 Introduction to public health: This course has 2 classroom-based credits (MPH 1.11  Introduction to public health concepts and issues), and is supported with 4 credits of field-based  learning. The field based courses aim at introducing students to the organizational structure and the  functions of the public health system and an understanding of community demographics, socio 
economic status, types and distribution of diseases and disorders in a community, and a community  perspective of the factors determining utilization of health services. 
1.2 and 1.3 Human Biology is aimed at providing knowledge on the functioning of the  human body, and the human life cycle. This course is optional for students from a clinical background. 
1.3 Human biology 2 aim at providing knowledge of the microbial, and pathology to understand  human nature .

Project Management 
The subject is aimed at developing the capacity of the students to design, manage and learn how to  plan and implement health and development projects in a systematic and organized manner. This is  done through understanding of the various stages of ‘project cycle management’ including pre-project  analysis, project design, project implementation including appraisal, project monitoring and  evaluation and reprogramming. The course is structured using a logical sequence to promote better  student understanding with emphasis on being a more inclusive approach. Relevant Case studies are  used at each phase to illustrate the embedding of the learning. This is an added advantage. Course  Objective
